Overview

What I built & why

A free, open source source code editor built on Electron with first-class TypeScript, debugging, and Git integration. Cross-platform on Windows, macOS, and Linux.

The extension API and Language Server Protocol have made VS Code the de-facto editor across most language ecosystems since its 2015 release.

Highlights

Key deliverables

  • TypeScript-first codebase
  • Language Server Protocol
  • Extension Marketplace with 50,000+ extensions
  • Integrated Git, terminal, and debugger
  • Monaco editor at its core

Process

Challenge & solution

The challenge

Editorial wanted to publish from anywhere, but the existing CMS made a simple image swap a fifteen-minute task.

The solution

Designed the new editor flow around the actual content patterns, with sane defaults and one-click publish targets.
